about

One of the best-selling songs of all time, “Let It Snow” was written in 1945 in Hollywood, CA, during one of the hottest days on record. Due to its seasonal lyrics, it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song, yet despite its cheery, holiday feel, it is a love song that never mentions Christmas.

This arrangement for marimba and vibraphone conjures the sounds and atmosphere of snow falling, from which the melody emerges. I imagine a cold, snowy evening, outside a cozy home filled with the light of the fireplace, and we take a peek inside the window as the third verse comes around, experiencing the warmth of the fire for a moment. But as the song says, the fire slowly dies away for the evening, and we wander on into the wintry night.
